Kena Scars of Kosmora

Ember Lab has announced that Kena: Scars of Kosmora, previously set for 2026, has been delayed to 2027. It will be available physically and digitally on PS5, and as a digital-only release on PC.

Acknowledging the excitement after its reveal last February, game writer Thomas Varga and COO Josh Grier said they’re aiming to “deliver a top-notch game that exceeds the quality we achieved with our 2021 debut, Bridge of Spirits, and at a much bigger scale.”

“Pushing our release into 2027 gives us the ability to really polish the expanded game experience we want to deliver.” Thankfully, the duo had significant new details to share. Lest you think Kena is going open-world, they confirmed that Scars of Kosmora is a “character-focused linear adventure.” However, it offers a “broader and deeper scope” than its predecessor. “The world has much to offer for players who decide to venture off the beaten path.”

As for the story, it sees Kena, now a full-fledged Spirit Guide, traveling to Kosmora at the insistence of her friend, Orfio. The goal is to push past her limits and maybe work on some of her own trauma. Kosmora featured four cultures based on four elements and Alchemystic Temples, but a “mysterious cataclysm” brought ruin to one.

But while the remaining elements have been repressed in the other cultures, it’s far from one. Thus, Kena will venture into the Spirit Guide temples to abate any future danger while unlocking “transformative rewards” for her. Getting around will also be much quicker, which is what the new “crystalline canine” is for (and who is also tied to the island’s origin). Besides helping her around, it also participates in combat, which includes mounted battles.

While Varga and Grier didn’t confirm when we can expect new gameplay, it makes sense to move Scars of Kosmora to next year, especially given the busy Fall release window. Stay tuned for more updates and in the meantime, you can wishlist the title.
