Kingdom Hearts’ long-running Dark Seeker Saga ended with Kingdom Hearts 3 in 2019, and now we have a glimpse of what the future holds for the series. Celebrating the 20th anniversary of Kingdom HeartsSquare Enix has officially announced its next mainline instalment.

Kingdom Hearts 4 will kick off the new “Lost Master Arc”, taking Sora to Quadratum, a modern metropolis that Square Enix describes as “a large, expansive city set in a gorgeous, realistic world unlike anything ever seen before in the Kingdom Hearts series.” The game’s trailer offers a glimpse of Quadratum and shows Sora going up against a massive enemy. It also confirms that Donald and Goofy will also be returning, while a mysterious new character – Strelitzia – also makes an appearance.

Kingdom Hearts 4 is in early development and is using Unreal Engine 5. No target platforms or launch window were announced, but it’s fair to say that it’s probably going to be a long wait for this game.
