Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII Screenshots Officially Reveal Dead Dune, Overclock Ability

Square Enix officially reveals what's up in the new desert area.

Square Enix has followed up the scans in Jump by officially revealing new screenshots for Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII that showcase a new area within the game – The Dead Dune – and also reveal Lightning’s purpose there. Also, the Overclock ability and healing spell is confirmed.

Essentially, Lightning is at the Dead Dune to hunt for treasure. Yes, that’s it. Of course, the oasis there serves as a hub from which the player can hopefully take up new missions.

On top of that, the Overclock ability can indeed freeze enemies dead in their tracks. But this consumes EP, along with the new healing spell that can take care of Lightning should she be in a pinch. How EP ties into the World Clock is still unknown, but we’re really hoping it means sacrificing time to save the world for being too lazy to think up a proper boss strategy.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII will release later this year for Xbox 360 and PS3.
