LIVE A LIVE

Square Enix has clearly seen the potential in the idea of HD-2D remakes. Octopath Traveler was the one that popularized the aesthetic, and Triangle Strategy will be following up on it soon, while Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake is also in the works. It turns out, however, that Square Enix has even more irons in the fire.

At the recent Nintendo Direct, we got the announcement of LIVE A LIVE, a full HD-2D remake of the 1994 game of the same name. If you’re unfamiliar with what LIVE A LIVE is, it was an RPG developed by Square for the SNES, and it released only in Japan. The game is essentially split across eight stories, each set in a different time setting and location and focusing on different characters, ranging from cowboys, cavemen, and knights to spacefaring sci-fi, ninjas, and martials artists.

It’s essentially the game that, ironically enough, inspired Octopath Traveler. Check out the remake’s announcement trailer below.

LIVE A LIVE will launch exclusively for the Nintendo Switch on July 22.
