Major Nelson on PS4: “Announcing a Console Without Showing It? That’s One Approach”

Major Nelson
Xbox Live director of programming Larry Hryb who is more popularly known as Major Nelson recently tweeted his thoughts on the reveal – or lack thereof, actually – of Sony’s Playstation 4. And it is glorious.

Last night wasn’t odd for the sheer number of tech demos being shown or the fact that Sony wanted to emphasize that the device was incredibly powerful. At least in this age of increasingly powerful smartphones and what with E3 2013 providing a solid platform for showcasing gameplay, it’s not far-fetched.

However, not revealing the console itself or the pricing while still dropping a release date smacked of nothing but “Huh?” and has turned out to be one of the major gripes from the event. Especially when you consider that it needed to end with a bang – something a design reveal, if not a price, would’ve done. But no dice.

What do you think? Is the Major being too snarky or does he have a valid point? And just how will Microsoft respond after the announcement of the PS4?
