Major Nelson: Xbox One Mod Support “Depends on Developers”

Once again, that doesn't it won't be possible at all.

After news that the Xbox One would support self-publishing for indie games and allow consoles to be turned into dev kits following a console’s ID being verified by Microsoft, it was asked on Reddit as to whether this opens up the possibilities for modding games on the Xbox One.

Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb stated in response that, “It’s up to developers to support that. These are two very different things.”

Why is this answer significant? If for no other reason than for the fact that it’s not an outright “No”, and with Microsoft backtracking on so many of its established policies to control users and their activities on the console, it definitely makes one wonder if mods could be next in line.

Neither the first Xbox or the Xbox 360 featured mod support however, and as of now, there’s no indication that the PlayStation 4 will either. Could this be Microsoft’s chance to finally get one over on Sony?
