Bungie’s Marathon has been the subject of much discussion over the past several months, especially following reports of troubled development and director Christopher Barrett’s removal. However, in a new Developer Update video, current director Joe Ziegler revealed details on the project’s state and upcoming plans.

Regarding 2025, the extraction shooter’s rumored launch year, Ziegler revealed that the team is “expanding our playtests a little bit wider and wider. We’re looking to add a significant amount of players to each of our milestones as we’re going forward, and some of these big inflections are opportunities for you all to join us.”

While he didn’t specify exactly when these playtests would begin, Ziegler revealed that Marathon is available to wishlist on various platforms, which is the best way to keep track of updates. Steam and PlayStation Store pages are currently up, with the Xbox Store still to follow.

Bungie looking at expanding playtests next year instead of a full launch could lend some credence to rumors about it missing the 2025 internal target. Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier revealed last August that sentiment around it is “not great,” though its current state remains to be seen. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.
