Mario Kart Tour

Nintendo’s Mario Kart Tour is now available, launching with its first Tour in New York City. Along with gacha mechanics and no multiplayer, it has the Gold Pass subscription service. Available now for $4.99 per month, first time players can experience a free trial for two weeks.

What does the Gold Pass provide? Gold Gifts via racing in Tours, special in-game badges by partaking in Gold Challenges and even 200cc racing mode. It’s an interesting combination of Battle Pass and subscription service since players still have to unlock the items by playing the game.

With each Tour lasting roughly two weeks, the Gold Pass seemingly provides new items and Gold Challenges every fortnight. We’ll have to wait and see how this model is adopted by players. Despite the somewhat meager success Dr. Mario World, Nintendo has been seeing strong success with its monetization in titles like Dragalia Lost and Fire Emblem Heroes. As always, stay tuned for more details.
