Marvel Rivals Developer Says “There Are No Discussions” Regarding Switch or Mobile Ports

NetEase's hero shooter is coming to PC and current-gen consoles this December, but Switch and mobile releases aren't yet part of the plan.

Marvel Rivals has generated a fair bit of buzz over the months, and at Gamescom, we finally also got a release date announcement for it, with NetEase Games confirming that the free-to-play shooter will be launching in December. But though the game is set to release for PC and current-gen consoles, it doesn’t look like NetEase has additional platforms in mind for it just yet.

That’s as per game director Thaddeus Sasser, who revealed to Pocket Tactics at Gamescom that currently “there are no discussions” happening at NetEase about releasing the game for mobile devices or for the Nintendo Switch.

That doesn’t necessarily come as a massive surprise. One would assume that a mobile release of Marvel Rivals would require a separate and dedicated build of the game for iOS and Android platforms, similar to what other console multiplayer games have done when jumping to mobile.

As for the Switch, with the console now in the last legs of its life (and its hardware lagging behind current-gen consoles’ capabilities significantly), it would likely make much more sense for NetEase to instead eye a release for Nintendo’s upcoming next-gen console. Presumably, that’s something that the company will think more about later down the line.

For now, Marvel Rivals is set for a December 6 launch on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
