One of the things about Marvel’s Avengers that we haven’t seen too much of is its loot mechanics, which is somewhat surprising, given that it’s supposed to be a loot and gear-driven game. That said, to their credit, developers Crystal Dynamics have been giving plenty of details on how things like gear and customization work. Here, we have a few more details on just that.

In an interview with IGN, Crystal Dynamic senior producer Rose Hunt and studio head Scot Amos talked about gear, and how every piece of gear will be unique per hero. Though players will be able to earn gear for any character in any mission, it won’t overlap across all the playable characters.

“If you play a Black Widow mission, you’re gonna have opportunities to get gear for any of your characters,” said Hunt.

“Gear is unique per hero,” Amos added. “So as you go find gear as Tony, you also have to go find gear as Widow, and go find gear as Hulk.”

Whether or not gear during missions will be more frequently found for whatever character you’re playing as isn’t something the developers went into, but one would certainly hope that’s the case.

Marvel’s Avengers is out on May 15, 2020 for the PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia.
