This holiday season, you’ll be able to hop into the shoes of some of Marvel’s finest superheroes with Marvel’s Avengers. Later this week, we’ll be getting some new story content details, but in the meantime, we’ve got a little news that should please early next generation adopters: the Avengers will assemble on the PS5 and Xbox Series X.

In a press release released by publisher Square Enix, it’s confirmed that the game will come to both next generation consoles. On top of that, both the PS5 and Xbox Series X will support free upgrades from the PS4 and Xbox One respectively, and that will include cross-gen progression and multiplayer. It seems they are aiming to have those versions go live with the launch of those consoles.

Following up on that, Gary Snethen, Crystal Dynamics Chief Technology Officer, spoke to PlayStation Blog to also detail some additional features to the PS5 version. While obviously there will be the graphical and loading enhancements you’d expect, there will actually be a performance mode that will prioritize framerate while targeting dynamic 4K resolution, and a graphics enhancement mode that will focus on the highest possible resolution. While one would assume this will also be true of the Xbox Series X as well, as of now, only the PS5 version is being specified.

Marvel’s Avengers will come to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia on September 4th, with next generation console releases coming Holiday 2020. Alongside story content, later this week we will also see co-op gameplay.
