While Marvel’s Spider-Man received praise for its story, it’s easy to forget how big the game was. Manhattan had numerous activities, collectibles, and side missions to complete. However, the map in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be even bigger.
Speaking to Famitsu (translation via Gematsu), creative director Bryan Intihar said it’s about “two times larger than the previous titles.” “We’ve added Queens and Brooklyn this time, so roughly speaking, the map size is about two times larger than the previous titles. Since these two areas are somewhat smaller and residential, I think you’ll find them different from Manhattan.
“We’ve prepared some unexpected situations we haven’t done before, like a battle on the river between two of the cities, so I hope you’ll look forward to them.”
While players explore the open world, they can freely switch between Peter Parker and Miles Morales at any time. Each character has unique content, though some are available for both. While playing the main story, Insomniac has pre-determined points for switching characters. If they’re anything like the gameplay reveal (which isn’t even from the final build), we’re in for quite a wild ride.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is out in Fall 2023 exclusively for the PS5. For worried that the reveal showcased too much, voice actor Yuri Lowenthal assures that we’ve seen “nothing yet.” Stay tuned for updates, especially since Insomniac will reveal the release date and pre-order information soon.
