Just days after Marvel’s Wolverine launched on PS5 – and reportedly sold 1.9 million copies – Insomniac Games has released a new hotfix addressing some of the more controversial features. Scent trails, which many criticized for being unnecessary, have had their opacity reduced, resulting in them looking “less intense.”
The same goes for Audio Sense indicators, though neither has been removed. Insomniac is still evaluating “ways to further improve Senses,” such as providing options to turn them off. These will likely arrive in a future patch, but there’s currently no ETA on the same.
Hotfix v1.001.005 is also notable for fixing certain “common crashes” faced by a small number of players. For more details on Marvel’s Wolverine, check out our review, where we gave it a 10 out of 10.
Of course, it’s proven a bit more divisive with other critics. On Metacritic, it currently has a 77 Metascore based on 128 reviews, and while the handholding is a major criticism, others took issue with the story and combat (though plenty have praised both as well). While clarifying its usage of scent trails and noting that they weren’t always present, Insomniac said it was gathering feedback on how to further “refine” the experience.
At the very least, those who purchased Marvel’s Wolverine and decided to rate it on the PlayStation Store are enjoying it. It’s currently at 4.76 out of 5 stars based on 40,000 ratings.
