Following its good but not spectacular critical reception, Marvel’s Wolverine has reportedly sold through 1.9 million copies in three days, according to Alinea Analytics. The firm estimates that one million came from digital pre-orders before launch and that physical copies contributed 22.9 percent to the alleged $130 million revenue.
And while that’s not quite as impressive as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Insomniac’s previous game, it’s reportedly better than Death Stranding 2: On the Beach’s lifetime PS5 sales and revenue (currently estimated at $129 million). It’s also apparently much better than Saros, estimated at 510,000 sales and Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, estimated at 740,000 sales (PC included).
Much of the player crossover reportedly comes from Marvel’s Spider-Man (82 percent), followed by Spider-Man 2 (70 percent) and Miles Morales (67 percent). Interestingly, Batman: Arkham Knight and Marvel Rivals also seemingly had some crossover at 45 percent and 43 percent respectively.
The long-term success of Marvel’s Wolverine remains to be determined, however, especially since PlayStation pushed it as one of its major first-party titles for this fiscal year. Stay tuned and check out our review, where we gave it a 10 out of 10, praising the combat, presentation and storytelling.
