It’s made pretty clear right from the get go in Guns of the Patriots that Solid Snake is a dying man, that his accelerated ageing means that he’s not going to be around for much longer. So when, near the end of the game, you see this man who probably already doesn’t have much time of left having to crawl through a hallway that is, essentially, frying his entire body, you can actually feel his pain. The scene is showed with Kojima’s classic flair for the dramatic, and the way it runs parallel with the dire situations other characters also find themselves in makes it that much more intense.
