Snake is officially back in the limelight with the launch of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, going over relatively well with fans and critics. Konami roped in younger developers to work on the title and effectively carry on the series’ legacy. However, it has been building up the team for quite some time now – since 2020, according to producer Noriaki Okamura with Bloomberg.
“We noticed that there are more and more people who didn’t recognize Metal Gear, and we thought that we needed to do something about it. We figured, ‘Let’s do a remake.’” It decided on Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater as a solid entry for newcomers, and the rest is history.
But this is far from the end. “We definitely built a team that could create a Metal Gear game. We’ve tried to get a lot of young people to build them up to create high-end triple-A games. We believe it would be a great opportunity for them to not only work on just one franchise, but to be able to take on a lot of different types of projects.”
Whether that means additional remakes is unknown, but Okamura and fellow producer Yuji Korekado are open to the idea. “If the fans feel they would like to see more from playing the game, then we would like to consider lots of other games in the future. For now, this is it.”
