Metal Gear Solid: Rising Could Spawn An Entire Series of its Own

Whereas it’s clear by now that MGS: Rising, the hack and slash action adventure based on the ninja from MGS2, Raiden, is not the next instalment in the Metal Gear Solid series, but rather a spin off, producer for the game Shigenobu Matsuyama has stated that, much like Metal Gear Solid before it, Metal Gear Rising could spawn an entire series of its own.

Speaking in an Enterbrain web broadcast, the producer said he’s aiming to spawn a spin-off series with the Raiden outing.

“MGS Rising is not a side story. We’re aiming for two Metal Gear [Solid]s, making a series out of another standard,” he said.

Potentially, then, Metal Gear Solid Rising isn’t just a one gamer trek deviation for the series, but could become a franchise with an entirely distinct focus of its own.

Metal Gear Solid Rising is due for release on the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. More details will be available as we near its launch, so watch this space.
