Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain wowed all of us when Kojima Productions showcased it at E3 2013. The red band trailer that would follow, in which Snake was murdering children and brutally combing through the intestines of one for a package, also showcase the game’s dark tone. However, no one can deny the success of the series – Konami sure isn’t.
It recently announced that total sales figures for the Metal Gear franchise as of March 31st 2013 equaled to over 35.2 millions copies worldwide. The series has managed to sell 4 million copies in the last 15 months itself, which includes sales for the HD collections and Platinum Games’ Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.
It’s not a bad legacy to be entering and shows that for all the idiosyncrasies and inanities of the franchise, Metal Gear Solid is still incredibly popular among gamers worldwide. Let’s see if The Phantom Pain can live up to that when it releases for the Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360 and PS3 in the coming future.
