Metro Exodus

We’ve known for a while that 4A Games is at work on the next mainline Metro game. The developer confirmed in 2019 that a Metro Exodus sequel had entered development, before stating the following year, that the shooter was in the works for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Now, a new report published by journalist Tom Henderson on Insider Gaming has potentially revealed new details on the game’s development and when it could launch.

As per the report, the next Metro game is “well into development” at 4A Games, to the point where in its current state, it’s even “fully playable”. There aren’t too many details to go on by now, but the report states the shooter will “follow the classic Metro formula of stealth, crafting, looting resources, and more”, and will begin with a dream sequence, following which players will wake up in their base of operations.

The report claims the next Metro game could be revealed as soon as sometime later this year, and currently has a tentative launch window target of 2024.

Recently, 4A Games offered a brief development update on the Metro Exodus sequel, confirming that its story would continue to carry “a strong political and anti-war message” and had been influenced by the war in Ukraine. Read more on that through here.

4A Games is also working on a standalone multiplayer Metro game, while job ads have also suggested that it has a new first person shooter IP in the works.
