This month has seen several big titles, the latest being Kojima Productions’ Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, but it also started with one of the bigger misses. Build A Rocket Boy’s MindsEye finally launched and received unanimously negative reviews due to its performance, bugs, and lackluster gameplay.

That negative word of mouth seemingly impacted its sales potential, as Ampere Analysis (via The Game Business) reported a “just shy” of 250,000 players with 150,000 on PS5, an irony considering Sony issued refunds. There are reportedly only 35,000 players on Steam, a problem since Build.MindsEye, the tool for user-generated content and the backbone of the developer’s plans is PC-exclusive.

Build A Rocket Boy has released patches to improve the game’s technical state, but it may be too little, too late. It’s allegedly beginning mass layoffs, with over 100 employees to be affected. What impact this will have on the roadmap, which includes free missions, free-roam multiplayer and even a sequel, remains to be seen.
