Minecraft Crosses 300 Million Lifetime Sales

Despite officially launching in November 2011, Mojang's open-world sandbox title is still the best-selling game in history.

Minecraft will celebrate its 15th anniversary next year in May, but sales are as strong as ever. During the recent Minecraft Live, Mojang Studios head Helen Chiang confirmed that the sandbox title has sold over 300 million copies. That means it’s still “one of the best-selling games of all time.”

The last announced milestone was in 2021 when it crossed 238 million copies sold. Since then, it’s had several spin-offs, including action RPG looter Minecraft Dungeons, which reached over 25 million lifetime players. Minecraft Legends, an action RTS spin-off developed with Blackbird Interactive, also saw three million players in less than two weeks.

However, both titles are on Game Pass, and while their player numbers are good, it still doesn’t hold a candle to the total number of sales from the main game. Minecraft is available on almost every platform, from iOS and Android to PS3, Xbox 360, PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch and much more. According to a recent ESRB rating, it’s also coming to Xbox Series X/S.
