Mojang’s Minecraft Dungeons didn’t receive tons of new information at X019. However, there was some brief gameplay along with the announcement of a release window. The dungeon crawler is out in April 2020 for consoles and PC.
Set in the Minecraft universe with its Creepers, Zombies and sheep, Minecraft Dungeons has an isometric perspective. It’s an action RPG akin to Diablo and sees up to four players embarking on a journey to take down the Arch-Illager. You’ll discover a variety of items to equip and use enchantments on weapons to further up their power.
Releasing for Xbox One, PS4, PC and Nintendo Switch, Minecraft Dungeons looks like a nice departure from the traditional survival/crafting of its namesake. The question is whether that’s enough to set it apart, especially with Blizzard’s Diablo 4 looking to capture the action RPG/looter genre (and lots of dungeons to explore). Stay tuned for more details and gameplay in the meantime.
