Minecraft Legends, the new RTS-lite set in the Minecraft universe, has many parallels with traditional real-time strategy games, including base-building and resource-gathering. These tasks in particular are carried out by non-military mobs known as Allays, of which there are two variants–Yellow for building, and Blue for gathering. Players start off with five of each in the campaign, but more can be acquired through two methods.
Finding Allays In Chests
There are many Allay chests to be discovered across the map, each of which contains a random assortment of Gold, Prismarine, Lapis, Redstone, or Allays to add to your retinue. Unfortunately, due to the procedurally generated nature of the game, the contents of any given chest is not guaranteed. Moreover, even if Allays are a reward, they will only ever be of one type or the other, never both. As such this method is wholly unreliable and should simply be considered as a bonus that players may or may not be lucky enough to stumble upon and receive.
Recruiting Allays At The Well Of Fate
A far more consistent source of Allays comes in the form of the Abundant Allays Tower, by way of the Improvement: Abundant Allays. These towers are constructed at the Well Of Fate, and grants an additional two each of Build and Gather Allays.
Unlike the first method though, this improvement requires a fair bit of story progression to unlock, including gaining access to the advanced resources coal and iron. Once achieved, the only limit on the number of towers you can construct is imposed by the resources available to you.
Each tower construction will cost:
- 100 Stones
- 50 Prismarine
- 10 Gold
PvP
Multiplayer places a hard limit of an even three Build Allays and three Gather Allays per player, with no prospect of raising it further, in order to keep competitive multiplayer balanced for both teams. Which means that in a typical 4v4 match, with 6 Allays fielded per ally, there will be 24 Allays available to each team to direct and deploy. This puts extra emphasis on the need for coordination and teamwork between team players, for maximum efficiency.
Minecraft Legends has all the hallmarks of a traditional real-time strategy game distilled down to the genre’s core elements, making the game immensely playable on controller and on all platforms: PC Windows, Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
