Various publications recently saw a 30-minute gameplay for Capcom’s Monster Hunter Wilds that revealed some interesting additions to the traditional formula. The development team already highlighted how the new Power Clash and Focus Mode work, but there are also Wounds.
As outlined by IGN, Wounds form on a monster throughout a hunt. Attacking them (with Scoutflies lighting them in red in Focus Mode) can destroy them and deal damage. Each weapon also has unique moves meant for destroying Wounds at a faster pace.
Other interesting gameplay changes include the option to pick up Barrel Bombs and reposition them, in case you mess up the placement, and red lines denoting when monsters will give chase. While the environment and weather changes in the Windward Plains, with sandstorms and lightning strikes, specific materials will only be available during those periods.
If you’re looking for Great Thunderbugs, for example, it’s best to explore the Plains when there’s a storm. Monster Hunter Wilds launches in 2025 for Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC. It will appear at Gamescom and have a playable demo on the show floor. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.
