Mortal Kombat 11 Tops NPD Group’s Software Sales Chart for May 2019

NetherRealm's fighter has also become the top selling game of 2019 thus far.

The NPD Group’s latest monthly breakdown is in (courtesy ZhugeEX on ResetEra), this time for May 2019 and NetherRealm Studios’ Mortal Kombat 11 is on top again. Not only was it the best selling title in the United States in terms of physical and digital sales for the month but it’s also the best-selling title year-to-date for 2019. Overall spending for the month was at $641 million, which is an 11 percent drop from $717 million year-on-year.

PC and console software sales made up $262 million in spending, down 13 percent from $302 million in May 2018. May 2019 actually witnessed the lowest software sales for the month since 2013 (which had $222 million in spending for software). Nonetheless, Mortal Kombat 11 is doing well, almost doubling in sales for its second month compared to any other game in the franchise in history.

Other noteworthy releases include Days Gone being the second best-selling game of the month, followed by Total War: Three Kingdoms in third. The latter is noteworthy for its global success on PC, becoming the biggest Steam launch of 2019.
