Mortal Kombat 12 Announced, Releasing in 2023

In an earnings call, Warner Bros. Discovery's Andrew Slabin revealed that the "highly-anticipated" fighting game would launch this year.

After numerous rumors, NetherRealm Studios’ Mortal Kombat 12 has finally been announced…in an earnings call by Warner Bros. Discovery. Executive vice president of global investor strategy Andrew Slabin revealed in the company’s Q4 2022 earnings call that the “highly-anticipated Mortal Kombat 12” would release this year alongside Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League with “ambitious launch projections.”

It’s definitely an anti-climactic announcement, but perhaps an official statement is coming soon. NetherRealm boss Ed Boon has teased the sequel several times, stating that the studio’s next project would either be Injustice 3 or Mortal Kombat 12. He also said last December that an announcement was “likely” within the next six months, so an E3 2023 appearance is possible.

If that weren’t enough, Boon said the studio’s next project would be its longest-supported title. Given that Mortal Kombat 11 received about one and a half years of support, it remains to be seen how the sequel will fare. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.
