After launching on PC, Mortal Shell 2’s beta finally arrives on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. It essentially covers the first three hours of the game – a hefty amount of content that begins in the Prologue and ultimately ends up in the first proper region. Check out the trailer below to see it in action.
As the Harbinger, you’re tasked with retrieving the Ova of the Undermether, fighting through all kinds of horrors along the way. On your own, that would be an arduous task, which is why the mysterious Shells of fallen warriors are at your disposal. The first, Tiel the Acolyte, is available to use in the beta, with the game offering eight in total, each fitting wildly different playstyles (head here to see two more in action).
Progress carries over to the full release, though there are some caveats. You can skip the Prologue entirely after making it past the Marrow Keep, and simply participating unlocks the Flayed Harbinger skin as a reward. Otherwise, everything else – from the Shells and currency to weapons gained – is reset.
Mortal Shell 2 launches on August 20th for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S, retailing for $49.99. Despite the “2” in the title, it’s considered a standalone follow-up to the original.
