MultiVersus

After numerous rumors and leaks, Warner Bros. Games and Player First Games have finally announced MultiVersus, a 2v2 crossover platform fighter. Releasing in 2022, it’s free-to-play and will be available for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and PC with cross-platform play, dedicated servers and rollback netcode. Check out the first trailer below.

MultiVersus features a variety of characters from established Warner Bros. franchises. There’s Batman, Harley Quinn, Wonder Woman and Superman representing DC Comics; Shaggy from the Scooby-Doo series; Tom and Jerry; Jake and Finn from Adventure Time; Arya Stark from Game of Thrones; and much more. A new original “creature” named Reindog is also part of the roster.

Each fighter has customizable movesets that can “combine dynamically with other characters” in fights (like using Arya’s face-swapping with Superman’s laser vision). Several iconic environments like the Batcave, Jake and Finn’s Tree Fort, and more are also included along with 1v1 and four player free-for-all modes. There are also a variety of different skins to equip and regular updates are planned for adding new stages, characters, skins, in-game events, and more.

Warner Bros. Games president David Haddad stated in a press release that, “With MultiVersus we are creating a distinct competitive game that allows us to combine a deep roster of celebrated WarnerMedia franchises for gamers to enjoy. We are partnering with the talented team at Player First Games to bring together a free-to-play, online platform fighter with a wealth of iconic characters that fans know and love, from Wonder Woman and Bugs Bunny to Shaggy and Arya from Game of Thrones. And this is just the beginning, as we are excited to support upcoming seasons and ongoing game content.”

Player First Games co-founder and game director Tony Huynh said, “MultiVersus is a dream project for our team at Player First Games, and we’re excited to officially reveal the game. We’ve built MultiVersus from the ground up to be a cooperative, social game that embraces teamwork and strategy. We’re also focused on providing first class online gameplay through dedicated server-based rollback netcode so that friends and rivals can enjoy a seamless competitive experience as they duke it out with our diverse roster of characters.”

If that weren’t enough, fans can expect voice talent like Kevin Conroy (Batman), Abby Trott (Wonder Woman), Tara Strong (Harley Quinn), Maisie Williams (Arya Stark), John DiMaggio (Jake the Dog) and many more to voice their favorite characters. Pre-registrations for upcoming play-tests are available on the official website so stay tuned for more details.
