Neil Druckmann, the visionary genius who brought us The Last of Us, Uncharted 4, and is now working on the upcoming The Last of Us Part 2, is now Vice President of Naughty Dog, which makes sense- as his resume demonstrates, the man has a knack for success.
The flip side of this is that Druckmann will no longer be directing The Last of Us Part 2, because of the added responsibilities on his plate; he will instead step back to being the “Creative Director” on the game. Meanwhile, Anthony Newman and Kurt Margenau, the latter of whom led development on last year’s underrated Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, will be jointly directing The Last of Us Part 2 now.
It’s good that more talent is getting the chance to prove itself at the studio, of course- after all, a decade ago, Druckmann himself was a relative nobody, who got his chance to shine thanks to his merit. It’s great that others are now getting that chance, too. Plus, as Creative Director and VP, hopefully he still has enough of a say in TLOU2‘s direction that his style and fingerprints will be all over it.
