Guilty Gear Strive - Asuka #R

Amid Arc System Works working on more content for Guilty Gear Strive, a new title in the franchise has allegedly been cancelled. Sources told Insider Gaming’s Mike Straw that this occurred sometime in the last few weeks.

Interestingly, a source stated it’s “back to the drawing board” for the series, though this doesn’t necessarily mean it’s on ice. Arc System Works has never indicated that a new Guilty Gear is in development, and given its focus on Strive, it may have been a ways off from an official announcement. The studio is also working on new titles like Damon and Baby, Dear me, I was… and Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, not to mention supporting Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising with new content.

Guilty Gear Strive is available for PS4, PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. It launched in 2021 and offered a ground-up overhaul of the formula, adding new mechanics like Wall Break and removing Instant Kills. As of July 2024, it crossed three million players and recently added Unika from the anime Guilty Gear Strive: Dual Rulers to the roster as a DLC character.

Lucy from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is next, but a release date remains to be revealed. Stay tuned for more updates in the meantime.
