In its recent monthly roadmap for Hitman 2, IO Interactive revealed that the next Hitman title was “well underway”. The developer said it was “looking increasingly to the future” and that it was shifting more Hitman 2 team members over to the sequel. Whether the title is fully in production is unclear but Hitman 2 will still receive new content like Featured Contracts, community-curated Contracts and more seasonal content.
Back in July, IO Interactive revealed that it was “looking ahead” to Hitman 3. It was later clarified that the sequel wasn’t in development just yet (only planned) and that IO Interactive’s Copenhagen studio was working on a new IP. The developer later announced a publishing and distribution agreement with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment for a “new console and PC game experience.”
What Hitman 3 could look like when it eventually releases remains to be seen but IO Interactive did say it was considering an episodic approach. If it’s far enough into the future, we could see the sequel launching for Xbox Scarlett and PlayStation 5 with possible launches on the Xbox One and PS4. As always, stay tuned for more details and check out our review for Hitman 2 in the meantime.
