Next Need for Speed

After months of rumors Criterion’s next Need for Speed, Electronic Arts, Codemasters, and even the official account have been teasing a reveal on Twitter. While the official Twitter has the “eyes” emoji, Codemasters more cheekily said, “Announce Need for Sp…. oh.”

Meanwhile, Electronic Arts asked, “You think they’re ready, @needforspeed?” All of this lines up with insider Tom Henderson’s recent report of an imminent reveal. It could very well be this week so stay tuned.

The next Need for Speed is rumored to be called Need for Speed Unbound. Set in Lake Shore City, based on Chicago, it reportedly incorporates animated aesthetics for different effects. One leaked gameplay clip showcased graffiti-like wings sprouting from a vehicle after a jump.

Playtests are reportedly happening from October 13th to 18th, as per Henderson. While allegedly slated for launch in November, the racing title was internally delayed to December 2nd. Interestingly, Unbound won’t be a cross-gen title, but exclusive to Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. Time will tell, so stay tuned for an official announcement in the coming days.
