Next Star Wars Game Will Kick Off a New Saga for the Franchise – Rumour

Knights of the... High Republic?

It’s end the of an era for Star Wars. With The Rise of Skywalker now out in the world, the Skywalker Saga is officially over. Whether or not it was a satisfactory conclusion is a discussion for another day, but there’s no question that the future is going to see the franchise going off in unique, different directions (hopefully)- The Mandalorian is already indicative of that, in fact.

And if a recent round of reports is to be believed, the next big saga for the franhise might actually kick off with a new game, scheduled to launch in 2021 (via VG247). Making Star Wars, a blog that’s had a pretty good track record with insider Star Wars info, reports that the next era of the Star Wars – internally being called Project Luminous by Disney – is going to take place 400 years before the Skywalker Saga, in an era dubbed The High Republic. The name seems to suggest it will be taking cues from the Old Republic stories from the Expanded Universe, but that last bit is just speculation on my part.

Back to the leak, Disney is viewing Project Luminous as a chance to tell a story that spans across all media, from games and movies to comics and TV shows. Interestingly enough, this is very much in line with a similar report from Ziro.hu, who report – based on different, independent sources – that Disney wants to adopt a model similar to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where they can tell fairly isolated and individual stories, but ones that are ultimately all part of a larger whole.

What is most interesting though, is that – according to this second report – the first story in Project Luminous is going come in the form of a video game, due out in 2021. The nature of the game is unknown, in terms of both platforms and genre. Luminous, according to this report, will be revealed later this year.

While it’s an unconfirmed report we all need to take with a grain of salt and all that, it’s worth noting that it also seems to go in line with things we’ve heard from EA. They have confirmed that a new Star Wars game will be out before April 2022, while developers EA Motive have also mentioned that they’re working on a “very unique” Star Wars game.

Again, this remains unconfirmed for now, but it’ll be interesting to see how all this plays out.
