Team Ninja and PlatinumGames debuted some new gameplay for Ninja Gaiden 4 during Day 2 of the Xbox @ Gamescom broadcast, focusing on Yakumo and his immense weapon selection. Infiltrating the headquarters of the Divine Dragon Order, which takes place halfway through the game, we get a closer look at the Assassin’s Tools.

These manifest as large claw arms in Bloodraven Form and can help in tearing enemies apart, especially when combined with the giant shurikens. Other notable weapons showcased include the staff (great for tight encounters), the Rapier (which transforms into the giant drill), and the dual blades (ideal against multiple enemies).

Yakumo can also throw bombs to launch enemies into the air, which can be comboed into the classic Izuna Drop. The mid-air Guillotine Throw from Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge for throwing enemies into one another also returns. Between battles, you’ll slide under and jump over laser traps, grind on rails, and take on missions with separate objectives at the shrine. At one point, Yakumo even deploys a wingsuit to glide through a section.

We also learned a bit more about the story and why Ryu Hayabusa is so opposed to Yakumo. As it turns out, the latter doesn’t just want to defeat the Dark Dragon – he and his allies want to unseal it, which Ryu and the Divine Dragon Order seek to avoid. And thus, conflict is inevitable.

Launching on October 21st for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC, Ninja Gaiden 4 received some more extensive gameplay before Gamescom, which you can check out here. You can also learn more about the PC requirements here.
