Nintendo’s usually been (far) behind the curve when it comes to online services and digital growth, but recent years have seen things changing for the better for the Japanese giant. In their recent quarterly financial report, they revealed impressive figures for their digital revenue.

In the third quarter of fiscal year 2019-20, Nintendo’s digital revenue stood at 124.9 billion yen, which represents a 48 per cent year over year growth. Nintendo attributes the growth to “the steady growth in sales of downloadable versions of packaged software and download-only software for Nintendo Switch, as well as the contribution from Nintendo Switch Online.”

Nintendo have also provided updated software and hardware sales figures as of the end of 2019. The Switch has now sold over 52 million units worldwide (now having surpassed the lifetime shipments of the Xbox One), while the company also posted impressive sales figures for the likes of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Pokemon Sword and Shield, Luigi’s Mansion 3, and more.
