Sorry, mobile users.

It seems we spoke too soon regarding Nintendo’s plans to announce a dedicated app for delivering demos and trailers to smartphone and tablet users.

In a statement to Engadget, a Nintendo rep dismissed the recent reports by Nikkei, stating that the information was related to president Satoru Iwata’s willingness to venture into mobile platforms more than anything else. “Nikkei’s article contains information previously stated by Mr Iwata during past press conferences, including statements which relate to Nintendo’s willingness to make use of smart devices to promote our products.

“However, during such past announcements Mr Iwata has also stated that Nintendo’s intention is not to make Nintendo software available on smart devices and as such, we can confirm that there are no plans to offer minigames on smartphone devices.”

This seems more in line with the stance that Iwata took about bringing Nintendo content to mobile platforms, simply stating that Mario wouldn’t be on smartphones any time soon.
