Not All THQ Nordic IPs Will Receive Sequels, Publisher Says

"Not all IPs are relevant any more," says THQ Nordic CEO.

The number of IPs THQ Nordic has at its disposal is frankly ridiculous. In total,  they have over a hundred IPs in their roster, and currently have 55 games in development, out of which 35 are games that have not yet been announced. But if you’re hoping to see sequels from each and every one of the many, many IPs the publisher owns, you may want to temper those expectations.

Recently, while speaking with GamesIndustry (in the very same interview where he responded to Darksiders 3’s mixed reception), THQ Nordic CEO Lars Wingefors said that fans shouldn’t expect to see sequels from every one of THQ Nordic’s over 100 IPs. “Out of the more than 100 IPs we own, you shouldn’t expect sequels from all of them because not all IPs are relevant any more,” said Wingefors.

Which makes perfect sense- but the question then arises, which IPs is Wingefors referring to exactly? Surely the likes of Kingdoms of Amalur and TimeSplitters, both of which were recently acquired by the publisher, will be receiving sequels, given the popularity of both properties, right?

Frankly, it’s unrealistic to expect that THQ Nordic will keep every single one of the IPs in its massive roster active, but let’s hope at least the very best ones get the attention they deserve.
