Oculus VR may been subject to controversy with its acquisition by Facebook but it’s still doing fairly well in terms of developer interest. It recently revealed that 45,000 Dev Kit 2 packages have been pre-ordered and that it will begin shipping the units out by the end of July. This is despite the frankly high $350 price.

The second iteration of Rift makes significant improvements to the original with a 1080p display, improved head tracking and lower latency, and much more, besides being lighter than the original (which sold roughly 60,000 units). By July end, there will be 10,000 Dev Kit 2 units shipped out with more to follow in the coming weeks.

Oculus Rift is a virtual reality headset that captured the imaginations of players everywhere until it was acquired by Facebook for a hefty sum. The company is currently embroiled in another controversy with Bethesda regarding its trademarks and technology. Stay tuned for more details.
