OD – Kojima Reveals New Details on Jordan Peele’s Involvement

Kojima has also revealed that Peele is one of several prominent figures he's collaborating with for OD's development.

With Death Stranding 2: On the Beach due out next year, and Kojima Productions set to begin production on new stealth-action IP Physint around the same time, Hideo Kojima and its studio have plenty on their plate already- though that’s not all. Also in the works is OD, a horror game being made in collaboration with Xbox Game Studios, which, as revealed at The Game Awards in December, will also see acclaimed American actor and filmmaker Jordan Peele collaborating with Kojima.

But exactly how is Peele going to be involved in the project? During an episode of his YouTube show HideoTube, Kojima offered some more insight on that front.

“We met on my podcast, and we found out that we were mutual fans of each other,” Kojima said. “Since then, we’ve seen each other several times. We talked about wanting to work together, and he’s going to participate in OD.”

Though Kojima stopped short of explaining in what precise capacity Peele will be involved, he did confirm that he won’t be playing a character in the game, but will rather “participate creatively.”

“No, not like that,” Kojima said when asked if Peele would be appearing in the game itself. “He’ll participate creatively. I’ll be in trouble if I say any more.”

Interestingly, Peele isn’t the only big-name star to be collaborating in a similar capacity with Kojima on OD. Kojima says there are “other members like him” who’re also working on the game. Though he can’t yet reveal their names, he says they’re internally being referred to as “the Avengers”.

“We’re actually calling them the Avengers, but we have other members like him,” Kojima said. “If I announced the names, you’d be surprised. We have a list of the members we’re in talks with. Everything is not set in stone though.”

He added: “When we reveal these names, my name will be completely forgotten. You’ll be shocked, like, ‘what the hell?’ Whenever I show this list to agents and managers, they can hardly believe it’s true. They say, ‘how did you manage to gather all these people who don’t listen to anybody else?'”

Further details on what to expect from OD are going to remain scant for some time to go, however, with Kojima confirming that he’ll be revealing new information on the horror title “gradually”. Kojima Productions has filed trademarks for a Social Scream System and Social Stealth though, which might suggest that the game will feature multiplayer elements similar to Death Stranding (which, of course, uses the so-called Social Strand System).

During the HideoTube episode, Kojima also spoke about why he decided to return to the stealth genre with Physint, while also revealing new details on Death Stranding 2, its setting, and some of its new gameplay mechanics.
