Onimusha Way of the Sword

Capcom didn’t provide any new gameplay for Onimusha: Way of the Sword, its long-awaited sequel in the acclaimed hack-and-slash series, in its latest showcase. However, it offered some new details, including confirmation of a new protagonist and enemy types.

Producer Akihito Kadowaki and the game director Satoru Nihei outlined three core aspects of the title. The first is compelling characters, which includes a “unique cast”, while the second is the setting – Kyoto in the early Edo era. It’s full of mysterious spots with unsettling backstories and drama (which is to be expected from a locale teeming with Genma).

The third is “ultimate sword-fighting action”, and while further details are pending, Kadowaki confirmed dismemberment and gore. Of course, the protagonist also wields the Oni Gauntlet, used to suck souls from slain enemies.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword launches in 2026 for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. It’s still a ways off so stay tuned for more details and updates in the coming months.
