A little over a month on from its launch, Blizzard Entertainment’s free-to-play hero shooter Overwatch 2 is edging closer to the release of its second season on December 6. Season 2 will, of course, bring plenty of new content with it, which will include a new playable hero. At the recent Overwatch League Grand Finals, Blizzard revealed who that hero will be.
Overwatch 2’s next hero will be Ramattra, a character who has been part of the series’ lore since he first appeared in the original game’s Storm Rising event, and will finally become playable. Ramattra, who will be a tank-class character, is a former war hero who has “shed his munitions for a shield to protect his people by promoting peace and tranquility.” Blizzard describes his story as “one of hardships, trauma, and a magnified view of humanity’s harsh realities.” Learn more about him and his origin story in the trailer below.
In our review of Overwatch 2, we rewarded it a score of 8/10, saying, “Overwatch 2 is a soft reboot of the hero shooter, enabling a quicker pace thanks to 5v5, well-designed maps, and extensive rebalancing. There are still some progression and monetization issues to sort out, but this update/sequel establishes a solid foundation for the series’ future.” Read the full review through here.
Overwatch 2 is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. It had brought in over 25 million players within 10 days of its launch. The free-to-play shooter currently has new Legendary skins for Kiriko and Junker Queen on offer until November 8.
