Overwatch Competitive Players Can Be Demoted From Platinum, Gold and Silver

Season 6 will bring even more intriguing changes than we thought.

Blizzard Entertainment’s Overwatch may have offered a tear-jerker with the latest animated short focused on Mei’s survival but it’s going to give you reasons to cry in Competitive Play as well. Season 6 of Competitive begins on August 31st at 5 PM PT and along with all the changes revealed till now, Blizzard has confirmed that players in Platinum, Gold and Silver ranks can be demoted.

If you’re not able to maintain the minimum Skill Rating required to stay in that tier, then you could drop down a rank. Competitive Points awarded per tier at season end won’t be changing – whatever is the highest tier achieved, you’ll receive CP for it.

Blizzard also noted that its formula for how much SR is gained with each win or lost after each loss will be changed. “These changes should help address some of the anomalies players have been reporting, especially with heroes that have lower win-rates.”

Overwatch Competitive Play Season 5 will end on August 25th. Along with a new short, Blizzard has also revealed changes for heroes like Junkrat, D.Va, Roadhog and Orisa along with new maps, Team Deathmatch and Deathmatch and so on, some which are currently available on the Public Test Region server.
