Overwatch

Blizzard Entertainment announced the changes that were being made to Overwatch’s Competitive Play when Season 2 arrives and they’re quite extensive. Director Jeff Kaplan talks about these in a new video which you can see below.

There will be a new skill rating system that ranges from 1 to 5000 and assigns tiers based on your ranking. These are Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Master and Grand Master in ascending order. You can’t drop tiers for any rank except Master and Grand Master so once you achieve those ranks, don’t worry about having a few bad games.

Depending on your tier, season rewards will be assigned accordingly. Competitive Points have been increased by ten times with the cost of Golden Weapons also increasing accordingly. Sudden Death is being removed entirely with Assault receiving the same time bank system currently in place.

Control maps remain the same while Payload and Hybrid maps will use the same time bank system as Assault. If there’s time to spare, a second round will take place to see how much farther you can push the payload. If ties happen, then both teams will receive Competitive Points accordingly.

There’s a lot more to cover so make sure you watch Kaplan’s video below. Overwatch will also be receiving a new map in September with Eichenwalde so there’s plenty more to look forward to.
