Blizzard Entertainment’s latest patch for the closed beta of Overwatch has finally added Competitive Play to the mix.

In a new developer update, director Jeff Kaplan explained the various features of Competitive Play and its goal. There will be different tiers and divisions and it’s about matching up against other skilled players. Players can queue up solo or in a group but they must be level 25 and above. Group size will be taken into account during the matchmaking phase, which makes us believe that the system will work to find other groups to pair you with.

And while Competitive Play will offer rewards, you can still gain some cosmetic items from playing. Check out the video below for more information on the overall match format and how things will work in the final release.

Overwatch releases on May 24th for Xbox One, PS4 and PC but its open beta starts on May 5th (May 3rd for those who pre-order and gain early access). What are your thoughts on Competitive Play? Let us know in the comments below.
