Overwatch Loot Boxes

Overwatch’s Anniversary Remix Vol. 3 event is live, wrapping up a three-part celebration of the hero shooter with several remixed Legendary skins. It’s available until August 30th but Blizzard Entertainment has confirmed another interesting development – loot boxes will no longer be on sale after the same date.

Loot boxes can still be earned through gameplay after the event ends, but even those will be gone once Overwatch 2 launches. The sequel is replacing its controversial loot box model with a Battle Pass system and in-game store for cosmetics. Any remaining loot boxes for players jumping from Overwatch 1 to 2 will automatically open before the latter is out.

Once Overwatch 2 launches, the first game will be unplayable since both are essentially merging into one client. While the cost of cosmetics has yet to be revealed, a survey was circulating, asking players if they would spend $45 on Mythic Skins and $25 on Legendary Skins. Blizzard responded that prices in the survey were “not indicative of final pricing” so we’ll need to wait for more details closer to release.

Overwatch 2 goes into early access on October 4th for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, PC and Nintendo Switch. It will be free-to-play with cross-platform multiplayer supported.
