Blizzard Entertainment had revealed some new heroes like Sojourn and Echo for Overwatch 2 back at BlizzCon 2019. However, it didn’t really clarify when they’d release, much less if any new heroes would be added to the current game in the meantime. A recent tweet indicates that someone new is coming along and they could be related to Dr. Mina Liao.

Liao is one of the founders for Overwatch and responsible for creating Athena. The latter is the announcer voice heard during matches and is a key part of the organization’s infrastructure. Whether Liao herself is being added as a character or Echo is on the way is currently unknown.

In the meantime, Overwatch 2 is currently in development for Xbox One, PS4, PC and Nintendo Switch. It will feature new PvE story missions along with a progression system for customizing each hero’s abilities. New PvP modes like Push and new maps will also be added that can be accessed by legacy game owners.
