PC MMOFPS Planetside 2 will finally be having its first closed beta on the PlayStation 4. Sony Online Entertainment announced that the beta will begin on January 20th and will look to capture the large-scale battles that made the PC version famous.

“We want the massive battles to make your heart pound and adrenaline pump, so share your thoughts with us.”

The PS4 beta will of course be used to test server performance and iron out any bugs. Testers are expected to offer their feedback through the beta forums that SOE have established.

Planetside 2’s PS4 beta was originally meant to launch last year but faced subsequent delays. This beta will bring the game one step closer to its release in 2015. The title is free to play so players won’t require PlayStation Plus in order to enjoy it. Of course, SOE will offer incentives for PS Plus subscribers. Stay tuned for more details on the beta in the coming weeks.
