PlayStation Plus is finally getting its long-rumored overhaul in June with a collection of over 400 PS4 and PS5 titles, and classics from the PS One, PS2, PSP, and PS3 eras also available (depending on the tier). The Premium tier seems to be meant for those keen on backwards compatibility. But will these classic titles benefit from any improvements?

Famitsu posed this question (translations via DeepL) to PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan, asking whether there would be any additional features over the original game. Would there be support for higher frame rates and such? Ryan replied that there are “more details to come”, and added, “I’ve heard from people who have played with it that it looks great on PlayStation 4 and 5. But it will depend on the game.”

Another problem that arises is that, improvements or not, you can’t purchase these older titles separately and simply play them on the PS5. The initiative seems very similar to Nintendo Switch Online, which only lets you play retro titles on the Switch if you’re subscribed to the service (not including Nintendo 64 and Sega Genesis titles tied to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack).

Time will tell how Sony addresses these concerns so stay tuned. The all-new PlayStation Plus is slated to go live in June. For more details, head here.
