According to a report published by Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson, a couple of Ubisoft’s most recent major releases have failed to perform to expectations, drawing in lower player numbers in their initial post-launch period than expected.

One of them is Prince of Persia: The Lost Crownthe company’s most recent release. Launching earlier this month, the action-adventure title drew widespread critical acclaim, being praised for returning the series to its sidescrolling roots while reinventing it as a Metroidvania experience. According to Henderson, however, thus far, the game has only been played by around 300,000 players, and estimated to have brought in roughly $15 million in revenue.

Meanwhile, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, which released last month, has seen 1.9 million players thus far, according to Henderson, accruing around $133 million in revenue, which is quite a step down from what developer Massive Entertainment’s previous releases managed in their early days, with The Division bringing in $330 million and The Division 2 bringing in $264 million.

As per Henderson, the open world action-adventure title was originally scheduled for a late 2022 release to coincide with the release of Avatar: The Way of Water, and saw its sales impacted after multiple delays and limited marketing.

At the same time, another recent Ubisoft release, Assassin’s Creed Miragehas allegedly been relatively more successful, with over 5 million players so far.

Looking ahead, it’s claimed that Ubisoft has Star Wars Outlaws planned for the first half of 2024, and Assassin’s Creed Codename Red for the second, with the likes of Splinter Cell’s remake, a new Ghost Recon game, and more planned for the next couple of years after that.
