Among the many surprises at the recent Nintendo Direct was the return of Level-5’s Professor Layton series. Starring in a brand-new title, Professor Layton and The New World of Steam, it sees the famous professor and his enthusiastic assistant Luke facing new puzzles in a new setting.

While details are lacking (aside from it coming to Nintendo Switch), one interesting tidbit is revealed in the Nintendo eShop listing. The series has sold over 18 million units worldwide since 2007. It’s probably not that surprising, given that it’s been generally well-received by critics and players across the world for years.

Stay tuned for more details on Professor Layton and The New World of Steam in the coming months. In the meantime, Level-5 is working on DECAPOLICE, a new open-world RPG releasing this year for Nintendo Switch, PS4 and PS5. It sees a rookie detective investigating cases in the real and virtual worlds in trippy ways.
